Coating
Spray Coaters
Coating is a process in which the surfaces of particles are carefully coated and refined. It is more than just a protective layer; coating is used to purposefully modify surface properties to meet specific requirements.
This process is widely applied across various industries, including agrochemical, pharmaceutical, and many others, where diverse coating techniques are utilized to influence surface structure effectively.
Coating applications include protection against environmental factors, taste masking, and the controlled release of active substances, offering significant functional advantages in product performance.
The selection of the coating is based on:
- the targeted functionality of the coating layer
- the size and shape of the particles to be coated
- the efficiency of the process (in terms of material, time and personnel requirements)
Spray Coaters: Fluidized Bed
Granulating, Coating, and Pelletizing with Unique Glatt Nozzles.
The Glatt LD top spray nozzle is specifically designed for granulation and coating processes. Its intelligent, lightweight construction ensures optimal spray rates, prevents clogging, allows for easy handling, and offers excellent cleanability. In addition, the nozzle is extremely robust. Operating on the binary principle, it can be precisely adjusted for a wide range of granulation processes. The nozzle is also equipped with SmartID technology for smart verification of critical process components.
The patented Glatt HS method is applied for coating processes in Wurster (bottom spray) systems. The HS Wurster spray nozzle delivers very high spray rates and enables the efficient coating of even micro-fine particles as small as 50 μm.
In direct pelletizing, rotor coating, and high-performance (HP) spray systems, the nozzle sprays laterally and directly into the product bed. For powder layering, a specialized three-component nozzle is used to precisely meter both the powder and spraying liquid, ensuring accurate and uniform layering.

GCSD Spray System
Perfect coating requires a homogeneous, adjustable spray pattern combined with constant and reproducible spraying behaviour. The GCSD spray system has been specifically developed to meet these exact requirements.
The GCSD nozzle is equipped with Glatt’s innovative ABC technology (Anti-Bearding-Cap), which enables spraying without bearding for the first time. This advanced feature prevents the clogging of liquid inlets and ensures continuous, even spraying without process interruptions or the need for frequent cleaning of the nozzle outlets.
The system allows for finely adjustable and reproducible droplet sizes, guaranteeing uniform liquid distribution throughout the spray jet. This solution offers perfectly controlled spray behaviour, delivering optimal results in every coating process.
