CPS™ Technology

Glatt’s CPS™ Technology (Complex Perfect Spheres Technology) is an advanced evolution of the rotor fluidized bed process. It enables the production of functionalized pellets and micropellets with exceptional roundness and smooth surfaces. This direct pelletizing method supports a wide range of drug formulations, from very low to very high active ingredient concentrations.

Unlike conventional rotor systems, CPS™ operates with a conically tilted rotating disc, creating a controlled, directional particle movement and allowing the pelletization end point to be clearly defined. No starter pellets are required, and the technology can produce pellets with active ingredient concentrations from less than 0.1% to as high as 90%.

The process delivers uniformly shaped pellets, typically between 100 and 1,500 micrometers, with a very narrow size distribution. Microcrystalline cellulose is commonly used as a base excipient, though other pharmaceutical excipients, including polymers and disintegrating agents, can also be incorporated.

Pellets produced with CPS™ technology are ideal as cores for coating applications, offering precise control over active ingredient release and effective taste masking. This innovative solution provides excellent flexibility for pharmaceutical formulation development.

MicroPx™ Technology

The Glatt MicroPx™ Technology is an advanced continuous fluidized bed agglomeration process designed for the production of pellets and micropellets with exceptionally high active ingredient content. This innovative system allows functional excipients—such as those used for controlled release or improved bioavailability—to be incorporated directly into the pellet matrix.

Unlike traditional Wurster fluidized bed processes, which require starter cores, the MicroPx™ Technology operates without a product template. Micropellets are produced directly from pharmaceutical substances and excipients sprayed in liquid form into the fluidized bed system. Through controlled spray drying and agglomeration, the particles gradually build up to micropellets with sizes ranging from 100 to 400 micrometers, achieving a consistently high active ingredient content of 90 to 95 percent.

A key feature of the MicroPx™ system is the integrated zig-zag air classifier, which continuously separates micropellets of the correct size from smaller particles. Undersized particles are automatically returned to the process for further build-up, ensuring efficiency and uniform particle size distribution.

This technology is particularly suited for producing micropellets that can be further coated, for example, for taste masking.

Glatt’s MicroPx™ Technology provides an intelligent, continuous solution for the efficient production of high-quality micropellets.
